Sunrise

Part of my process as an artist includes me recording images from my everyday life (both moving and static). I regularly pull from my archives to create paintings, photo print transfers and video work. This particular piece is primarily comprised of images from Pacific City, Oregon; I was working at a high end spa as a Massage Therapist at Cape Kiwanda during the pandemic in 2020. The beach and the ocean were a refuge for me during that time. These images are small notes taken on my lunch breaks and before and after work. I am drawn to extensive layers of image and sound as a way to embody the sometimes overwhelming presence of the ever evolving N0W.

The audio was created through layering tracks I recorded using a device that outputs sound generated by the electrical impulses of plants. I would regularly set the device up with the various plants I had living in my fifth wheel with me near Lincoln City, Oregon. Playing the music of the plants became part of my everyday attempts to relax my nervous system and relax into my body and space. I record these sessions regularly and am able to pull them out for various projects.

I like to use my iphone for most of my video work, as it allows me to make work throughout the day in small moments when I am drinking my coffee or when an idea hits me throughout the day; art is life.
